Stay at Home Jobs for Moms: Selling Scentsy

Over the years I’ve had many discussions about stay at home jobs for moms. As a wife and mother, being able to raise my children at home was always my dream and priority. I’m so very thankful I had the support of James and was able to achieve this!!

As blessed as I was to be a mom and homeschool our kids, there were times we really struggled financially though. Today I continue to have conversations with women who are also struggling. With high costs for housing, groceries, daycare, and so many other things, it’s difficult for families living on one income alone. Sometimes it’s even hard with two incomes.

My heart goes out to these women because I remember what it was like. People shouldn’t have to deal with these hardships. And they shouldn’t have to sell their soul to be a stay at home mom.

Working from home is doable.

It doesn’t seem that long ago that I wondered if working from home was even a possibility. While I was going to school at night to earn a degree, I didn’t have any real “marketable skills” even though taking care of two children and a child-like husband can be harder than being a CEO at a company, in my opinion. 🙂

What can a woman with limited work experience and time do to make some extra money?

Since most companies wanted a person who had extensive training or time commitment my only real option was starting a business. But knowing what business and how to do it was also challenging. Oh, and did I mention I’m an introvert who doesn’t like attention?? EEEK! This all seemed very daunting but James believed in and encouraged me to keep searching for options.

Direct sales. I don’t think so.

There are plenty of ideas for stay at home jobs for moms. Writing, proof-reading, photography, crafts, administrative, tutoring, and cleaning houses were the usual suspects. All would be perfect for my talents and experience but none of them really sounded appealing. I tried doing a variety of these tasks to make money but they didn’t stick.

Then one day we talked with our youth pastor and he suggested selling Scentsy.

We didn’t know much about Scentsy products or about the business and we were skeptical when we learned it was a direct sales company. James and I had tried doing direct sales many years earlier and it was horrible. So when we joined our friend for lunch to hear about the opportunity, there was some apprehension to it all.

Despite all of our objections and concerns, I felt great about this company.

I believed the compensation plan was real and we could earn some money with this side hustle. Scentsy was made up mostly of women and the products easily sold themselves. The start-up fee was ridiculously low, and if I didn’t like being a consultant, at least I wouldn’t lose a lot of money if I quit. Almost ten years later I’m still an Independent Scentsy Consultant and doing awesome.

Building my business and working from home has been so rewarding. It would take a separate post to share all the blessings and joy it has brought to my life — like amazing friends all over the country and traveling all over the world. Most of all I was able to stay home with my children until they flew the nest and that was priceless.

That’s enough about me though. Let’s talk about you.

Stay at Home Business for Moms: Selling Scensty Products.

Have you considered selling Scentsy?

This is the question where it all began for me and now I’d like to pose it to you. Would you ever consider selling Scentsy or building your own direct sales business? If you really were able to make money and earn incentive trips, would you be willing to try it?

“But I’ve done direct sales and it didn’t work …

This is one of the biggest objections I hear. Please put aside any previous experiences you might have had or negative stigmas associated with the idea of direct selling.

Many of us have had bad experiences with something. But I always say, “just because you had a bad experience with a restaurant, doesn’t mean you stop going out to eat.” How many times has a restaurant made you sick or unhappy but you still go out to eat? There are great direct sales companies and there are some very bad ones. Don’t let that keep you from achieving your goals.

Scentsy has a solid reputation in the industry and is even listed as one of the best companies to work for. They continue to soar in revenue and now have licensing deals with Disney, Marvel, Warner Brothers, and professional sports. Would a crappy MLM company be able to do any of this? Not at all.

Direct sales isn’t for everyone but it can be for anyone.

Understandably direct sales might not be your cup of tea. I get that and even thought it for myself. Yet despite the fact I dislike “doing sales” and sometimes have to overcome those negative stigmas, my business has been successful and I have hundreds of awesome customers and team members all over the world. The cool thing is anyone CAN do direct sales and also be a huge success with the right company.

If you want to be a stay at home mom (or dad) then Scentsy gives you the ability to do that.
